BETTY COLOMBO
She took her first pictures when she was 14 because she was bored during a ceremony and there she discovered a new world behind the lens. She had a long work taking pictures at sports events, then in fashion between Italy and Spain. She studied at Accademia di Belle Arti di Brera and completed a Ph.D. in Cultural Anthropology in Granada; there she discovered her passion for traveling. Then she combined her two interests into photojournalism.
She attended stages with Gianni Berengo Gardin and Ken Damy. Work experience with Helmut Newton. Now she has been signing detailed articles for several Italian and foreign magazines; she is also a member of Condè Nast and RCS/Cairo editore photographers. She works for Glamour, Style, style Piccoli, Io Donna, Vogue, Dentro Casa, Class, DOVE, Capital, Twiggy, Ville & Casali, Case & Country, Bell’Europa, In Viaggio. She curates articles about traveling, design, and famous people. She worked for Yves Saint Laurent, Corneliani and L’Oréal Paris, too.
She won some prizes: Oscar Signorini Prize from Agenzia D’Ars (about the research of Chaos), Vodka Absolut prize, Swatch Prize, Wella Italia Prize and has been selected by Amnesty International for a reportage about acid purified women; she has joined more than 60 exhibitions in Italy and abroad. Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao, Centre Pompidou in Paris, and Modern Art Museum in Stockholm bought some of her works.
She is a registered photo reporter at A.I.R.F. and owner of Hurry-up! Studio. She is a Canon photographer and a member of NEOS, traveling journalists associated. For more than 10 years she supports Interethnos Interplant Italy www.3ionlus.org.
Realizza i primi scatti a 14 anni per combattere la noia di una cerimonia e scopre che il mondo dietro a un obiettivo era proprio il suo. Lunga gavetta nell’ambito della fotografia sportiva, poi la moda tra Italia e Spagna, l’Accademia di Belle Arti di Brera (110 e lode) e infine un Master a Granada in antropologia culturale che l’ha indotta al viaggio. Da lì al mondo del fotogiornalismo il passo è stato breve.

Oggi firma pezzi di approfondimento per diverse riviste italiane e straniere e fa parte dei fotografi Condè Nast ed RCS/Cairo Editore. Collabora con Glamour, Style, Style Piccoli, Io Donna, Vogue, Dentro Casa, Class, DOVE, Capital, Twiggy, Ville & Casali, Case & Country, Bell’Europa, In Viaggio. Cura articoli riguardanti viaggi, design e personaggi famosi. Ha lavorato per Yves Saint Laurent, Corneliani e L’Orèal Paris.
Vincitrice di alcuni premi fra cui il Premio Oscar Signorini dell’Agenzia D’Ars (per una ricerca sul Caos), quello di Vodka Absolut, di Swatch e di Wella Italia, è stata selezionata da Amnesty International per un reportage sulle donne ustionate dall’acido e ha partecipato a più di 60 mostre in Italia e all’estero. Il Guggenheim di Bilbao, il Museo d’Arte Moderna di Stoccolma e il Centro Pompidou di Parigi hanno acquistato opere fotografiche sue.
È fotoreporter iscritta all’AIRF ed è titolare dell’ Hurry-Up! Studio. Fotografa Canon e membro della NEOS, Giornalisti di Viaggio Associati. Da più di 10 anni sostiene Interethnos Interplast Italy, onlus che si occupa di chirurgia plastica ricostruttiva nei Paesi del terzo mondo www.3ionlus.org.
